Recently I was asked:
do you do copyediting, proofing, website maintenance, document formatting, and stuff like that?
I had to chuckle a bit as I said “Yes, that’s exactly what I do as an EA!”
People don’t really understand that an Editorial Assistant is, essentially, a person who helps an author, editor, or publisher with a wide range of tasks surrounding the writing/publishing environment. With my background in English, my love of writing and design, and my experience in the back offices of a communications company I have a solid grasp of editorial assistance.
All writers, editors and publishers need someone to help with the peripherals such as correspondence, email, proofing, light editing, and document presentation. Many even benefit from the type of web skills I bring to the table. Most writers, editors, publishers don’t need the high end, and costly, web programming but would greatly benefit from having a well-designed and tastefully presented web site.
Do I do that sort of stuff?
You betcha!
